HAVE FUN!
Each match is between two teams of two players; one team plays red and yellow, the other, blue and black. Balls are played in the color order displayed on the center stake: blue, red, black, yellow.
The winner of a coin toss before each match chooses the team’s colors, and therefore the order of play. Players are not allowed to change colors once play has begun.
Each player’s first shot is taken from a position one club handle length from the first wicket.
The ball must be struck, not pushed, and may be struck only with a mallet face.
A ball is not in the game until it has made the first wicket. Balls not yet in the game may hit other balls not in the game without reward or penalty. However, balls in the game are dead to balls not in the game, and vice versa.
If two rewardable actions happen on one shot, only one action counts, and the striker may choose which one it is.
To make a wicket, a ball must pass, in the correct direction, completely through the entry-side plane of the wicket. A ball that rolls back into the wicket due to poor court conditions shall be considered to have made the wicket.
When the striker’s ball makes a wicket, one continuation shot is awarded but any previously accumulated shots are lost.
If the striker ball knocks another ball through that ball’s next wicket (including the first wicket), then that ball has made the wicket. Neither player receives extra strokes for that ball making the wicket.
Passing through a wicket in the wrong direction is allowed, but does not count as making the wicket. Likewise, hitting the center stake out of order is of no consequence.
If the striker ball roquets another ball, it is awarded two shots, but any previously accumulated shots are lost. The first shot is the croquet shot that must be taken with the striker ball placed in contact with, or as close as practicable, to the roqueted ball. If contact is chosen, the striker may steady the striker ball with a hand or foot.
After a ball has been roqueted, it is dead to that striker ball and remains so until the striker makes the next wicket. If a striker hits a ball that’s dead to him, his turn ends and both balls are replaced to their position before the play.
If a dead ball is in front of or inside a wicket, it can block the wicket to the striker (unless the striker can “jump” the ball), but only for one turn. If a dead ball is still blocking a wicket on a striker’s next turn, the ball is considered to be live again and can be roqueted.
If a dead ball is on the other side of the wicket but is blocking the striker’s path, the striker ball may hit it without penalty provided it makes the wicket.
A ball is out of bounds if it passes more than halfway over the boundary line. If a player causes any ball to go out of bounds, except his own ball on a roquet shot, that player’s turn ends. (After a roquet, the striker is ball-in-hand so its ending position is irrelevant.)
Any out-of-bounds balls should immediately be placed one mallet-head length inside the line at the point where it went out of bounds. Similarly, any ball that ends up within 9” of the boundary at the end of a player’s turn should also be placed 9” in.
Players are required to keep track of which wickets they have passed through. Color-coded clips may be used to determine which wicket each player is trying to score next.
A referee may require a player to take his/ her turn if the referee feels excessive time (20 seconds) is being taken.
All matches are timed at 20 minutes per match except the Championship, which is timed at 30 minutes. The timekeeper will announce when there are ten minutes left and when there are five minutes left.
The game ends when time expires or when both players on a team stake out.

Scoring

Each wicket scored and center peg hit in the proper sequence gains one point, for a maximum total of 13 points per ball and 26 points per team.
At the end of preliminary matches, each team totals their points and reports them to the scorekeeper. If the game was not over in 20 minutes, the team with the most points wins. In the case of a tie, the team scoring the next point wins.
After the preliminary rounds, the team in each flight with the most wins proceeds to the quarter finals. In the event of a tie within a flight, the tie breaker is net points then gross points then record against.
In the quarterfinals and semifinals, the team with the highest score at the end of the game proceeds to the next round.

SENDING A BALL AFTER ROQUETING IT.
DEAD BALL
A BALL MAY NOT LEGALLY BE HIT BY THE STRIKER BALL .
OUT OF BOUNDS
BALL EXTENDS MORE THAN 1/2 WAY OVER THE BOUNDARY.
BALL IN HAND
A STRIKER BALL MUST BE MOVED AFTER A SHOT, SUCH AS AFTER A ROQUET.
BISQUE
A “MULLIGAN” OR “DO OVER” (MUST BE PURCHASED BEFORE TOURNAMENT,). NOTE: BISQUES CAN BE USING THE PLAYOFFS, BUT NOT IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH.

Qualifying for the Playoffs

Eight (8) teams from each tournament will play in the quarter final event. The two teams with the best win-loss-tie records from each flight will qualify for the playoffs. If two or more teams share a win-loss-tie record, points scored will serve as the tie-breaker. If a tie still exists, the winner of the head-to-head match advances. And if a tie still exists, the best dressed team based on audience applause advances. The eight (8) play-off teams will be seeded 1-8 by their wickets scored. NOTE: Bisques can be used in the Playoffs, but NOT in the Championship match.
