The latest exhibit at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, UNCONVENTIONAL, looks at three civic leaders from the Harrison era and examines how their lives and legacies intertwined with each other and the 23rd President. Discover how Andrew Carnegie, May Wright Sewall, and Frederick Douglass became champions for civic rights despite coming from disparate backgrounds. Opening January 22, 2025, this limited time special exhibit will be in the Welcome Center of the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site until November.
The “Unconventional” exhibit is made possible through the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site’s Capps Curatorial Fellow collaboration with the Indiana University Indianapolis Museum Studies program. The initiative seeks to share the Presidential Site’s nationally significant collection in meaningful and relevant ways, while providing unique opportunities for emerging museum professionals to engage in collaborative training, hands-on experience, conservation, preservation, and innovative exhibit design. The 2025 Capps Curatorial Fellow is Grace Collier.
