Join us for an evening of history, architecture, and engaging conversation as we welcome Dr. James Glass, renowned preservationist and architectural historian, for an author talk and book signing of his newest book, Architecture in Indianapolis: 1820–1900.
The evening begins at 5:30 PM with a wine and cheese reception in the Welcome Center, followed by Dr. Glass’s 6:00 PM talk on the historic architecture of Delaware Street. He will explore the diverse styles that shaped Indianapolis’ early cityscape—from Federal and Greek Revival to Italianate and French Second Empire—and examine how economic booms, transportation advancements, and urban growth influenced the city’s built environment.
Following the presentation, guests can have their books signed in the museum gift shop, where copies of Architecture in Indianapolis: 1820–1900 will be available for purchase. To ensure you get a copy, pre-order your book when purchasing your ticket!
This beautifully illustrated volume, featuring 373 photographs and drawings, is the first comprehensive history of 19th-century architecture in Indianapolis. It documents the city’s landmark structures, lost buildings, and evolving architectural identity across the 19th century.
