Step into the magic of a Victorian Christmas at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site and leave with an assortment of your very own handcrafted Victorian ornaments. This festive, hands-on workshop invites guests to learn how families of the era decked their holiday trees with handmade treasures.
Your experience begins with a guided tour of the beautifully decorated Harrison residence, where you’ll discover how President Harrison and his family embraced holiday traditions, such as having the first decorated tree in the White House.
Then, enjoy a cheerful crafting session inspired by 19th-century holiday décor. Guests will have the opportunity to create:
Gilded nuts — a classic Victorian keepsake symbolizing luck and prosperity
Popcorn garlands — a charming favorite of the Harrison era
Collage-style paper ornaments — made from curated vintage-inspired papers, trims, and ephemera
All supplies are included, and a selection of light refreshments will be available throughout the workshop to keep spirits bright.
Whether you’re building new traditions with family or reconnecting with your creative side, you’ll leave with handcrafted ornaments worthy of your own Victorian Christmas tree—and a deeper appreciation for the holiday legacy of the Harrison family.
Join us for a cozy, history-rich experience and bring home a bit of Victorian cheer!
